This post is for the final week of my internship at Monash University.

As I have said, I am working here as a professional staff. My job title is Systems Officer. Therefore, even though the internship is finished I still need to continue my works.

However, the projects, ABRS and Open day is completed during 12 weeks internship of Professional Year Program. Now those are on testing stage. ODAR will be ready to use for next year – Monash Open Day 20111. ABRS should be also ready for budget time next year – 2011. My team is happy with whatever we have done. As well our clients, Marketing and Finance are happy with the products as well.

The only thing of ABRS which I am still researching is datawarehouse technology. We need to update ABRS for finance staff who want to view the reports faster and in Microsoft excel as well. Until now, we have found the solutions and the way how to integrate datawarehouse into ABRS. But we have not started to implement. We will start to design and implement next month.

Even though the ODAR is finished, Marketing staff still want us to develop some web forms for students registering their interest with Monash. Monash can then send HTML email to them for advertising purposes. Subscribe and unsubscribe is another project I am doing now.

Other things what I have done in the last week of internship:

1. Review the projects and show to my mentor

2. Ask my mentor to fill the evaluation form of my internship works

3. Send my mentor an appreciation letter

4. Complete the internship portfolio and submit for marking

5. Continue working with ACS Education online – answer questions on forum as well as continue doing the last assignment

6. Complete my tasks at my current workplace

The time is too tight for me, however I will try my best to complete all things.

As I have said, during my internship at the Business and Resources, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement), Monash University, I was a member of a developer team doing two projects for the business:

1. Advancement Budget Reporting System (ABRS)

This system is a big web based application. The main function of the system is to generate the finance reports of budget of the University. The system is able to connect to SAP – core University system to get data from there.

SAP database is huge, therefore our database is bid as well. We are currently using SQL Server 2008 to store the database. We also use Crystal Report to show the data to staff.

Finance staff can view the reports on web page, however, the speed of loading reports is a big issue. It takes a bit long to show details reports. Moreover, when users want to modify something on the reports, they need to export to excel which they refer to use.

Now finance staffs are testing the application, in the mean time, our team are searching the solutions for speeding up and helping users to view the reports in Excel as well. We have decided to use datawarehouse technology for upgrading the application. We try to update the application so that it will be ready to go live next year.

2. Open Day web based application (ODAR)

The system is ready to go live and to be used next year.

We are training marketing staffs how to manage the events, viewing the reports and connecting the system to CRM – core University system.

Marketing staffs are using CRM system to manage contacts, future students. They will set up an automatically sending HTML email to all contacts who attended Open day 2010. So now they have requested us to develop an application which can allow the contacts to unsubscribe their interest with Monash.

That means when a contact receive a email from Monash by CRM system. Inside their email, there is a link UnSubscribe.

Currently, when user click on unsubscribe link, an email will be sent to marketing staff. They need to delete this person from the group in CRM system. Now they request us to develop for them an application which help them unsubscribe automatically.

When user click on unsubscribe, an web page of confirmation will be shown to user, they click Yes to confirm that they want to unsubscribe, then they will be removed from subscribe group in CRM database automatically and the system will send an email to inform Marketing staff that an user has been unsubscribed from the group for record purpose.

For this application, I am the one who has responsibilities for completing. The application is being tested by marketing staff and it will go live n November.

Next week will be the last week of my internship at Monash University. Next week I am going to review on what I have done during 12 weeks and prepare a thank you letter to my mentor as well as prepare the portfolio for Internship of ACS Professional Year Program.

In this report, I am using a method called SWOT to analyse my written and oral communication skills including strengths and weaknesses. As well I will identify two areas for improvement and outline some strategies which I should use to enhance these areas.

First of all, it is necessary to define SWOT. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

Strengths are attributes of a person that are helpful to achieving the objectives

Weaknesses are attributes of a person that are harmful to achieving the objectives

Opportunities are external conditions that are helpful to achieving the objectives

Threats are external conditions that could do damage to the objectives

As I used to be a lecturer for two years, I have improved much in presentation skills. My classes normally had more than thirty students and that provided me with great opportunities for me to experiment my presentation and oral communication skills. Before I went to the lecture, I had prepared lecture notes, professional slides, what and how I should lecture my students to help them to understand the lessons as easily as possible. After two years as a lecturer, I felt confident in oral communication skills. Moreover, when I started to study Masters in Australia in 2007, I had another opportunity to gain more communication experiences by practicing oral presentation in classes, but in English.

English is my second language and is one of my weaknesses. Therefore living in Australia where people use English as a first language, has provided me with a good environment to practice and improve my communication skills in English. I recognize that I am good at those skills, so if my English is also good, my oral communications will be competent in Australia.

Practice is the best way to improve my English. Fortunately, I have some Australian friends who can help me to correct my pronunciations, my voice and my sentences. I have tried to communicate with them as much as possible and the result is that my English now is better; it is improving all the time. Besides, I have tried to listen to radios, televisions, read newspapers, etc. Moreover, I am studying the Professional Year Program which is a useful opportunity for me to practice oral communication skill and writing skills. The result is that I feel more confident in speaking and writing in English now as I have been educated in professional business communications, Australian workplace culture.

As I mentioned above, I have also gained writing skills during the time of my lecturer roles. I was responsible for composing lecture notes, assignments, etc for my students that was really a good chance helping me to get experience in professional writing skills. Moreover, during my studies in Australia, there were a lot of assignments which had to be completed in professional report format such as business proposal documents, software manuals, application documentations or project management. My current job also requires me to write reports, technical documents and write email professionally to interact with colleagues.

Additionally, after I had graduated Masters, I had opportunities to work in professional IT companies. I knew that I should practice more my oral communications and writing skills because these skills were obviously very important for working in a team. In my work place, I was required to write documentations for whatever I have completed. I also had meeting and discussion every week, communicated with my colleagues via email. During that time, I had gain to be more confident in my communication skills. Moreover the Professional Year Program have also given me great opportunities with many writing assignments.

Even though I have many opportunities to practice writing in English, I still recognize that my English is my weakness. In my writing, there are often incorrect grammar mistakes, the structure and meaning of my sentences are not clear sometimes. My current job does not require much in writing; almost all of my documents are technical reports. Therefore, I still need to practice my essay writing skills in classes and read newspapers to learn more about grammar, sentence structures in writing. Another way for improvement of writing in English is on the internet because there are many English websites which can help you to correct your essays.

In conclusion, I would like to say that I have good presentation skill, I feel confident in talking front of people. I can only say that writing technical IT documents is my strength; I need to learn more and more about writing essay skills, professional reports writing skills. Communications in professional business should be improved as well. To be able to live and work well in Australia, I need to keep learning English all the time.

Innovative suggestions to be considered or made

I am writing a report on my contributions for the company I am working at. As a professional staff at Monash University, what are my responsibilities, what can I do and what can I suggest in order to contribute to the business.

As you have known from some earlier posts, I have been working as a professional Systems Officer at the Office of Business and Resources, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement), Monash University, Caulfield campus.

I have been working at Monash for less than 1 year and this is the first job in my career. Although I used to work in another university in Viet nam as a lecturer role, I do not understand too much and I do not also have much experience in working environment in Australia.

However, the Professional Year course of ACS organisation has educated me a lot of knowledge about Australia Workplace Culture, Professional Business Communication and now I am learning about Professionalism, ethics in ICT. Therefore I felt a bit confident in working at Monash as a professional IT developer when I started my career. Since starting to work at Monash, I have gained working experience from my colleagues, information of the real business. As well Professionalism has helped me a lot on professional behaviors and ethics of professional staff in ICT industry.

I have already worked for almost 7 months, I know how to perform professionally in my workplace such as communication with my colleagues. Discussion in formal and informal meetings or writing email I know how to practice professionally. I have been trained to work ethically in ICT industry, particularly in Monash University.

At my current workplace, I have responsibilities for support users using CRM system as well as other ssystems support such as finance systems, some websites for Openday, Mentor, mentee forms, eNews subscribe forms and so on. As helping users whenever they have issues, I should be able to talk with them even directly via phone or email. So I should improve my professional communication skills.

My clients such as Marketing staff, finance staff or Future students department or my director, my manager request me to develop something, I discuss and get the requirements from them. Then I discuss with them and think about it, with my experience and understand clearly the systems, I can give them some suggestions to satisfy them. Because they may not understand deeply about the system, their requirements would not be developed. But it may be built in another way. Then, I can suggest and give them another way to think and if they agree with the new solution, they can come back to me and I would start to develop.

To sum up, I have been working as a professional staff, I need to be responsible for responding all requests from my clients professionally. I need to understand the professionalism in the real business because I am working with all professional people.

I am writing a report on the relationship between theory and practice observed in workplace, ICT used and what technology I am using for completions my tasks at Business and Resources, Monash University.

First of all, we should understand what theory is and what practice is. According to Wiki website, “theories are analytical tools for understanding, explaining and making predictions about a given subject matter”. Theories are normally expected to follow the principles of rational thought or logic; it may also be expressed mathematically, symbolically or in common language. Otherwise, practice is the action using theories. It is a method to reach the expectation of theories and it also means to acquire experience.

We are doing the internship which is a good opportunity for us to use the theories we have learnt from university for practice. We have been educated a lot of theories about ICT industry, and now we are acting those knowledge. In all theories we learnt, we may use some, we may not use others. However, the university has trained us very good skills which are learning by ourselves, so whatever is new for us; we are able to study online by ourselves. There is no doubt that ICT has been developing rapidly, our knowledge from school may be old comparing with the current technology. But we have ability to learn quickly new technologies.

At business and resources, Monash University, I am working as a web developer and reporting officer. Whenever my team has new project, we plan to develop the project carefully under a project manager. We use our understanding to analyse the requirements logically. That is theories. Then we start to develop the project following those theories. In some cases, we can complete the project matching all theories we thought earlier. In other cases, what we thought earlier can not be developed during we are completing the project. There may be some reasons such as knowledge limitation, resource limitation or high risks.

I think not only my office, ICT is very important in all companies over the world. People can not work without computers. They need computer to help them to store data, to calculate quickly and to remember a lot of things happening in workplace. Particularly, in my office, the majority is finance, people need computer to create finance reports. Therefore, I am developing some finance applications for them to create reports easily and accurately. As well as Monash University manages students, contacts, enquiries, events, etc by a web based application called CRM (Customer Relationship Management). I have responsibilities as an administrator for this system. I have to do reports, user supports, etc.

To develop web based applications in my current workplace, we are using

.NET environment, ASP.NET with C# language

LLBLGen Pro to connect to database, this is a kind of Object Relational Mapping

DevExpress as controls for Visual Studio 2008

Crystal Report to create reports for web based applications

Because CRM system has been developed with SQL Server 2005, I have to develop reports using SQL Server Reporting Service to deploy to CRM system.

Using API (Application Program Interface) to write into CRM database.

Managing, maintaining 4 servers: database server, reporting server, web server and development server.

Using Php to develop some web pages for Monash University such as mentor, mentee registration forms, event and payment gateways.

Some applications connects to Oracle database

Working with Microsoft office: excel, macro in excel, word, visio

I am improving my programming language and gaining a lot of working experience in professional business. I like my jobs because every day I face with new things, new technologies, so it is good opportunities for me to learn more things.

I am writing a report on my projects and tasks on progress at my current workplace, Monash University. I also include my organization and planning skills as I am working full time at Monash and studying the Professionalism of Professional Year Program.

The current project I am doing is ABRS (Advancement Budget Reporting System). The project has been completed about 90%. This application has been developing by our team and finance staff at Monash University. I am involved in the team as a developer. My tasks in the project are:

Preparing the data: import data which I get from finance people in excel files.

Using LLBLGen (ORM – object relational mapping) to connect databse

Using C# to develop some functions in the application

Using Crystal Report to create reports following requirements and layout of finance people.

Research datawarehouse to increase the performance of the reports in future

As normal tasks every day, I work as a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) level 2 support:

Develop reports which are requested by Future Student, Marketing department and others.

Support users as I have administrator roles in CRM system.

Using API (application program interface) and C# to develop some web based applications connecting to CRM database.

I also look after and support users in other applications such as Staff Asset Register, Commission Invoicing, Publish and Design, Donation.

Open day is another project I need to update some new functions to be used next year.

Using C#, SQL server 2008 to develop the web based application Open day.

Develop reports and deploy to CRM system using Open day database.

As a professional staff at Monash, I need to be responsible for whatever tasks and projects in my roles. Therefore, in working hours, I need to work hard to be able to finish all tasks on time. If there is something new I do not understand, I would try to stay late in the office and research about that so that I can finish my tasks. At night time and weekend, I spend almost the time for doing assignments of Professionalism subject as well as writing report on my blog. If I still have any free time, I will try to research online whatever can improve my knowledge and maintain my career such as new technologies in .NET, datawarehouse, ethics for professionals.

It is very hard and I am always busy with working and studying. However, I try my best to finish the Professional Year Program. I have completing half way of the course. I really like my current job as well. I have good opportunity to work in very good environment, with professional people, university. This is very good chance for me to gain experience and new technologies knowledge.

On 26 June 2010, I went to the website HumanMetric existing at http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp and answered 72 questions. I did the questionnaire and got the result, my type is ENTJ.

Because I am an ENTJ, I have more Extraverted Thinking. The introverted intuition is very low, 12%. I should pay attention on this ability to make the balance between extravert and introvert. The reason is that INTJ is also as useful as ENTJ in life and at work as well. According to some experts, in leader roles, INTJs are quite effective, because they are able to objectively see the reality of a situation, and are ability to change something which are not working well. INTJs spend a lot of time inside their own minds; they are ambitious, self-confident and long-range thinkers. If I can, I should change my thinking to be like INTJs whose primary interest is not understanding of a concept, but rather applying that concept in a useful way.

Thinking and judging abilities are good for me. I need to improve it as much as possible. It is good in my life and work if I can organize things I need to do and have a clear plan for whatever I want to do. Planning and finishing everything before the deadline is very necessary in work. However, I also need to break my plans and accept feedback from other people if my solutions are no longer suitable at a specific time in a process of a project for example.

As an ENTJ person, I prefer working in an environment that allows opportunities for me to take the lead. As well I am willing to take challenges and I can operate independently towards organizational goals. I would also like to work in an environment with high energy, fast paced and results orientated.

However, INTJs are advantages in work as well. They are smart, they are more focused on work, and they are more patient and better at self – improvement. I should learn some skills from INTJs such as learning to think ideas carefully before speaking, how to improve by myself and learning to develop my patience. Otherwise, INTJs should also learn from ENTJs. For examples, they should learn people skills from ENTJs. Because they are not socially driven to show out their ideas, so they are happy and willing to help someone else who have more capable such as ENTJs to talk about their ideas. Therefore, INTJs and ENTJs work well together. I should improve my ENTJ skills and also learn more from INTJs abilities.

In conclusion, from the assessment result, I can organize my personality. I enjoy social activities. I always plan for everything happened in my life. As well as I believe my thinking much more than the feeling. Although I have social skills, I still learn how to control it and gain more experience from people who have INTJs skills in my workplace. By researching which I wrote in this report, I understand clearly about the roles of ENTJs and INTJs in working environment. Then I can try to advance myself to be as good as possible at my current job.

• Problems encountered – professional and personal
• Problem solving skills used

I am writing a report on problem solving skills. As I have been working at a professional IT environment, I would like to write some information about what problem encountered, how can I deal with it and what problem solving skills I have used for that.

In fact, in our life, we need to decide what we want to do, what we want to be. We often face with problems and we have to think how to solve the problems. Some problems are simple, others are challenging, and some can take us careful thought and consideration.

We can define a problem that a problem is an opportunity for improvement. After solving a problem, we can gain experience, knowledge and we can avoid the problem happening again. A problem can be also defined as the difference between the current state and the goal state. When we know where we will be and what we want to be, we may have to face problems to be solved to get our goals.

When we have a problem, we need to think of solving the problem which means finding a way to make the problem go away. The way to solve the problem is called a solution. A solution is the management of a problem in a way that successfully meets the goals established for treating it. Sometimes the goal can eliminate the problem entirely, sometimes the goal can only treat the effects of the problem. According to Robert, Introduction to Problem Solving, 1998: “There are two basic approaches to solving problems, one where the cause or source of the problem is attacked and the other where the effects or symptoms of the problem are attacked. For ease of remembering, we can call these the stop it and the mop it approaches, respectively”. Stop it approach is designed to cure the problem, so the problem will be no longer exists. A mop-it approach focuses on the effects of a problem.

At work, I normally use following steps to solve problems whenever I face with it.

Step 1: State the problem

I analyze the problem and state what the problem is. I consider the problem has multiple aspects or not. If so, I need to think what are those? I use my own words to write all aspects in the clearest way.

Step 2: Define the problem and clarify the problem

It is very important to understand clearly the problem. What are difficulties and why I am not happy with the current situation? What effects the problem cause to my works? I really think an gather information about the problem and I make sure the problem I am trying to solve is the real problem.

In the problem, there are some aspects which are uncertain and unclear. So I try to clarify those aspects to make sure that I understand clearly everything about the problem so that I can find the solution of the problem quickly and more effectively.

Step 3: Generation of alternative solutions:

In this step, I try to remind me have I faced the same problem in the past? If so, how well have I worked on this problem? If I have solved a problem which is like the current problem, I think about the past solution and I try to think another solution which is better than the past one.

If I can think and have many possible options which can solve the problem and the results may be different each other, I may list all options in details. Then I may ask others who can give me some advices for those.

Step 4: Decision making

This step, I am ready to narrow down some of the options that I have generated in the third step. I know that there is no solution which is perfect, therefore I consider which solution can bring me my goals and I can execute the solution in my abilities.

In workplace, all problems are stressful. However we should remember that no matter how stressful of the problem, there always is a solution to make it gone away.

I am writing a report on communication processes used in the business and what kind of the communication processes I have used at my current workplace.

The communication process is a process of sending and receiving information among people. The process includes:

Sender: sender can be a speaker in spoken language or it can be a writer in written language.

Message: The information is said by the speaker. The conversation can be plain, smooth or awkward. The purpose is just to transmit the thoughts, feelings, businesses agreements and so on.

Channel: it is the way used to express or send the message such as conversation via phone, via email, face to face.

Receiver: it can be a listener or a reader. Sometimes one message is to be sent to many receivers. The receiver and the sender will be influenced by external environment and internal stimulants

Feedback: is the reply of the message the sender sent. The sender may receive the feedback or not. A request for making clarification or for more details can be raised.

There are two types of business communication. One is internal communication and another one is external communication.

Internal communication is the interaction between colleagues, employees and employers. The purpose of this communication is to increase job satisfaction, contribution and profit for the business. The internal communication can be informal or formal. Formal meeting in business is called formal communication which should have a person who can control the meeting. It should be organised when people start to do big projects or to solve the problem in work. Otherwise informal conversations can be a chat between colleagues to transfer quick answers or quick knowledge. It can be anytime and anywhere.

There are a few of sub categories of internal communication: upward communication, downward communication and horizontal or literal communication. Upward communication is the interaction between employees and management staff. For example, the employees may have some ideas or feedback to their supervisor who can then talk to the manager.

Downward communication happens in another way. Information will be transmitted down from supervisors to employees. Normally, employees will be told what to do in this type of communication. Horizontal communication is the conversations between people who are in the same level in the organisation. It will be good for problem solving, improving team work, and accomplishing tasks.

External communication includes communications with people outside the organisation like clients, vendors. This type of business communication is suitable for sale, customer services and corporation.

People can use many channel to in communication. They can communicate face to face. They can interact via technical devices such as mobile phone, voice chat on the internet and email.

As a new staff at my current workplace, I usually use upward communication to communicate with my manager about whatever I think and what I am doing, what I have done. My manager interacts with clients, get new tasks and then assign to me. During the time I am doing my workload, if there is any concern or any question or any ideas to clients, I report all to my manager and let my manager decides what I need to do.

I can make appointment with my manager to meet face to face in case something needs to be solved urgently. I can also email or phone my manager. However, we mainly use email to communicate together.

Sometimes we have formal meetings to discuss some important things happening in the organisation. We often have informal meetings between members in team to exchange information each other.

In conclusion, communication is very important in business. It can also mean being kind, smiling, listening, sending message to other people and controlling body language. Communication skills are required for people who want to work in a professional working environment. It must include spoken and written skills. In my current workplace, email is used very often and I should to improve my email writing skills.

I am writing a report on tasks of projects which I am doing at my current workplace. As I am working full time as well as studying Professionalism in ICT of Professional Year Program in Computer Science, I would like to write about how can I manage my time to complete my jobs and my study.

I am working as a web developer at Business and Resources, Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement), Monash University, Caulfield campus. Besides doing developer roles, I still have to be a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) administrator and support.

From 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, I work at my workplace. I am responsible for:

CRM users support:

Look after the job integrated in Callista (Core University System), this job will transfer data from Callista to CRM database every 5 minutes.

The CRM system manages contacts, event, courses, fees, agents, companies, etc of the whole University. Therefore, I am responsible to create reports requested by clients in the University.

I am using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Service 2005) to develop reports on CRM

For my web developer roles, I am working as a system support for all current web applications such as:

Staff Asset Register: staff uses this system to register their assets like their computers, mobile phone…

Donation system: manage other income of the University from donation

Commission Invoicing: create commission invoices reports of all agents in the University. This system can also export data which will be uploaded to SAP – Core University System.

Advertising system, design and publishing system: create reports and export data to be uploaded to SAP. Data will be expenditure amount of advertising job in the Uni and Office of Design and Publishing.

Event system: integrated with CRM system, allow users to create events and automatically publish a registration webpage.

Open day system: users use this system to create events for Openday every year. This system can be used to manage funding of the event as well. After finishing creating all events, the information can be exported for design Openday Book. It will be also used for Openday website for students.

Those above systems have been completed and I am just responsible for supporting whenever users need, updating, changing, adding more functions if needed. I am developing new system called Advancement Budget Reporting System and update the new version for Open day system.

The main purpose of ABRS is to produce the reports on

Expense amount

Annual budget

Income

Month commitment

For particular portfolios, divisions, cost centre (department), funds, and funding hierarchies.

The three main purposes of ABRS:

Expense transaction coming from SAP. ABRS users have to download this data from SAP in excel format and upload to SAP via the provided interface.

Annual budget, income, and month commitment. ABRS users have to manually enter those figures. However, to minimize this operative time. ABRS provides the ability to duplicate those figures from one period (year, month) to the other. Users can then edit those figures with very little effort.

Report structure. The report structure includes Chart of Accounts, Porfolio, Division, Department, Fund, Fund Group, GL, Fund Consolidation, GL Consolidation, and Funding Source. ABRS administrators have to pre-define the structure for each year before the report for that year can be generated. Similarly to annual budget, ABRS users can copy the report’s structure from one period (year) to the other and then edit it with minimum effort.

As professional staff responsibilities, I need to complete my workloads and report to my manager. Therefore, in working hours I cannot spend any time for my studies. I can only do my homework at night time and weekend. Sunday and Monday, Tuesday after working hours, I complete my assignments of Professionalism in ICT subject. Thursday, Fridays night, I spend time for reply my classmates’ posts in ACS Education forum. And Saturday I spend all time for my blog post and relax. I know time is hard for me. I am always busy with work and studies. Because I need to finish Professional Year and I believe the course can bring me a lot of benefits for my current jobs. It can help me to gain and maintain my current job. I will know how can I behave as a professional staff at my workplace. As well it can also help me to be able to apply Australian Permanent Resident. Monash University is a good working environment and I love my job as well, so I really want to keep the job and hopefully, I can get a permanent position in the University.

That is all what I am doing at my current workplace. It is a bit hard; the time is tight for me currently. I have been working there for only 6 months, so I need to focus more and more, study to gain more experiences so that I can keep the contract with Monash. As well I need to complete all my studies of Professional Year Program.

Interpersonal skills observed and/or used

I am writing a report on my current workplace environment and how interpersonal skills are important as well as how those are used in the workplace.

First of all, interpersonal skills are the skills that a person uses to interact with other people. Interpersonal skills include active listening skills, communication skills and the behavior also.

Interpersonal skills are important in many aspects of life, and certainly, it is very essential in business environment. In workplace environment, interpersonal skills are as important as technical skills. It can help people to make success or failure in their careers. Employees who have good skills will be more effective when interacting with people. They can be good staff for companies that is largely based on face-to-face contact or dealing with clients.

However it is not only in marketing or sale person, the interpersonal skills are also very important for staff working in any business. In workplace, people need to interact with other co-workers, present their ideas, listen and learn feedback from others to improve knowledge.

In my current workplace, there are more than ten staffs. I am working as a programmer in a team of three people. I often discuss in my team on whatever we are doing such as sharing experiences, presenting thinking, finding the problem solutions. Normally, we have informal meetings to exchange knowledge or quick answers. Sometimes, we do have formal meetings when we start to do big projects. The formal meetings that will involve all of us and some other staff will be organized by my manager. Of course, in the formal meetings, we also need to talk about the project and what we are thinking about how we going to complete the project as well as what difficulties we will have during the time doing the project.

Normally, I use email to interact with other staff inside the office or someone from other departments. However, if someone wants to request my team to do something, they need to talk with my manager and then my manager will tell us later. Therefore, I do not often deal directly with clients, everything I am doing I need to report to my manager. My manager will then give me some feedback and send it to clients.

Sometimes, I make mistake, then I listen feedback from my manager or others and try to fix the problem. I always try to avoid complaining anyone, even if when I am unhappy, I still try my best to act happy anyway. Always be cheerful and try to make others happy that is a good point in interpersonal skills. Smile and saying “Hello, How are you” to everyone is very common in workplace environment.

Besides we also have some time for relax like in lunch time or parties inside the office. At those times, I try to talk with others to make connection with them. I think it is very good if we have good relationship with people in my team and also not in my team.

I think interpersonal skills are every important for people working in any office. Staff with the high skills will work more co-operatively and be more productive. They can make very good relationship with others as well as they can improve much their organization skills and leadership skills. Therefore, employers always look for employees who have good interpersonal skills because they think that those employees can contribute to their businesses.
